Down Syndrome

Down Syndrome and Natural Medicine

Natural medicine can have a profound affect on the health and wellbeing of people with Down syndrome. Nutritional medicine and natural therapies can help improve;

  • Immune health
  • Thyroid function
  • Digestive and gut health
  • Cognitive health and function
  • Attention and behaviour
  • Speech development
  • Nutritional status

As well as reducing;

  • Inflammation
  • Incidence of developing dementia

In 2017 our beautiful daughter Rose was born and diagnosed with Down Syndrome. I’ve since been very impressed with just how much of a difference nutritional medicine and natural medicine protocols have on Roses health and wellbeing.

Down Syndrome/Trisomy 21 is a genetic chromosomal alteration and therefore it is fixed and can’t be improved. This is certainly what I thought before I began researching, however I was surprised to see that there are many things you can do to improve the cognitive function and physical health and wellbeing of your child with Down Syndrome. As a Naturopath and Kinesiologist I utilise a number of different practices in clinic to help improve your Childs health;

I have done and continue to do extensive research on the physiological impacts of an extra 21st chromosome. When you begin to understand what impact the extra chromosome has on production of certain enzymes and processes on a biochemical level, as well as gut health and blood brain barrier function, then it makes sense to counteract and negate some of these effects with natural medicine (any treatments I use are backed by clinical trials and extensive research).  Please read some of the articles I have put together on this site.

I am available for consults in clinic and via skype. As a practitioner I try to set achievable goals and work with you and your child at a pace and with a protocol that will be effective but which works for you and your family. I looking forward to working with you and your child and sharing in the joy as you notice your Childs health improve and their potential be realised.
